
Dr. Schlosberg
Dr. Schlosberg holds a B.A. and an M.M. from Trenton State College and an Ed.D. in Creative Arts from Rutgers University . His expertise is teaching and performing on most band and orchestral instruments and conducting band, orchestra and choral groups. Dr. Schlosberg began his career teaching music in the Plainfield Public School District in 1960. In 1967 he joined the Westfield Public School District and remained there until 1996, when he retired to devote full time to the growth and development of New Jersey Workshop for the Arts. In addition, he has studied jazz improvisation, French Horn, trumpet, woodwinds, percussion, strings, voice, guitar and conducted with top professionals.
CELLO
R. Brent Geyer
A graduate of West Chester University, R. Brent Geyer holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and in Piano Performance.
Mr. Geyer, who previously taught piano at the Friedlander Piano Studio in West Chester, Pennsylvania, has extensive performance and ensemble experience. He has been an accompanist at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the South African Benefit Recital. Also an accomplished cellist, Mr. Geyer has performed at the University of Villanova production of “Twelfth Night” and with the West Chester University Symphony Orchestra.
The recipient of nearly two dozen awards and scholarships, Mr. Geyer is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and is an elementary strings and classroom music teacher within the Westfield School system.
Carl Baron
Mr. Baron received his BMA at Purchase College where he studied with Julia Lichten. He is currently pursuing his M.M. in performance at the Manhattan School of Music where he studies with David Soyer. He has also studied cello with Richard Aaron at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Marion Feldman at the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division. In December 2009, Mr. Baron toured China with the Manhattan Symphony. He has played with the Plainfield Symphony, South Orange Symphony, Little Opera Company of New Jersey Orchestra and the New Jersey Concert Opera Orchestra. He is an active chamber musician, collaborating frequently with pianist Suki Guerrier in the New York area. Mr. Baron is a Westfield High School graduate and a former New Jersey Workshop for the Arts student and intern.
VIOLIN
Janet Lyman
Janet Lyman has been teaching since 1967. She studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, receiving a B.M. and an M.M. Ed. Ms. Lyman teaches music in the Tenafly school district and founded and conducts the Tenafly Symphony Orchestra. She is Director of Music at Zion Lutheran Church in Clark where she established a brass and string ensemble and conducts the Adult and Youth Choir. Ms. Lyman was string advisor to WYACT/NJPAC Summer Musicals and has conducted the North Jersey Junior Regional Orchestra. In 2003 she started and directed a Hand Bell Choir at Zion Lutheran Church in Clark, NJ.
Rosemary Topar
Rosemary Topar, violin instructor, is a graduate in Music Performance from Montclair State University .
Ms. Topar, a former Music Studio student, was a teacher and conductor's assistant at the Montclair State University Preparatory Center for the Arts and the Stokes Forest Music Camp.
A member of the American String Teachers' Association, the violinist has performed with the Montclair State University Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the MSU Chamber Singers. In 2006, she participated in the International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Music to Eastern Europe .
Among the renowned venues at which Ms. Topar has appeared are Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, the NJ Performing Arts Center and the National Concert Hall in Dublin , Ireland .
Loc Dao
Loc Dao holds a diploma in violin from the National Conservatory of Music and Drama in Saigon , Vietnam , and also studied violin while attending Rutgers University . He was on the staff of the J. S. Bach School of Music in Vietnam and has been a private violin instructor in the Hunterdon County area.
Mr. Dao has had solo performances in many area musical clubs and has performed on national radio and television in Vietnam . In Saigon , he was a member of the National Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Music and Drama. He has played with the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra and the Tam-Linh Chamber Orchestra in Vietnam , as well at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank and the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn .
GUITAR
Glen Brown
Glen Brown graduated from Rutgers College, with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Music. He has taught and performed professionally for ten years and has been involved in various recording projects. Mr. Brown's experience in composition and performance spans many genres, but finds a focus in modern and pop. His primary interests include composition, theory, music and technology, psychology of music, and educational methodology.
Robert Marriner
Robert Marriner (guitar, string bass) is a graduate of Glassboro State College. His classical performances include appearances with the Monmouth State Symphony Orchestra and The New Jersey State Symphony Orchestra, jazz and pop with the Glassboro State College Band, The Brookdale Big Band, The Platters, Little Anthony and the Duprees. Mr. Marriner has also toured with Harrah's Clubs in the tri-state area, Monmouth College, Brookdale College and various theater groups.
Nicole Signorella
A graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.S. degree in Elementary and Special Education, Ms. Signorella also has a double major in music, with concentrations in voice and guitar.
She was part of the Seton Hall Touring Choir and performed on stage at Seton Hall's campus for many cabarets, which included music from Irvin Berlin and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Ms. Signorella has studied voice and acting professionally since age 6 and worked for a talent agency for many years. She has also recorded several albums of original songs and cover songs. Her styles and genres in music include country, jazz, R&B and musical theater and she loves to experiment musically and lyrically.
With a wealth of experience teaching children, Ms. Signorella recommends a daily dosage of music to encourage concentration and inspiration.
VIOLIN/GUITAR
David Hilton
David Hilton, a graduate of Montclair State University with a major in violin, also holds New Jersey State music teacher certification. He has performed in numerous string ensembles, musicals, operas, choirs and Barber Shop Quartets. Presently, a music teacher in the Springfield Public Schools, he also worked with the Summit Marching Band and enjoys playing electric bass and electric violin. In the summer of 2004, Mr. Hilton taught strings and guitar at the Westfield Summer Workshop
Michael Robbins
Violin, viola and guitar instructor Michael Robbins is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, from which he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree.
Currently an instrumental music teacher in the Plainfield school district, Mr. Robbins has prior experience in school systems in Elizabeth, Linwood and Seabrook. He has also taught private lessons, to both children and adults, at several New Jersey studios, teaches guitar at Camp Horizons in Livingston , and previously worked in the NJWA District Saturday Program in Plainfield .
Mr. Robbins is also an orchestral performer, having appeared with the Atlantic Symphony, Delaware Valley Philharmonic and Pottstown Symphony. He has appeared in New York , New Jersey and Pennsylvania with various jazz and folk rock groups with whom he has made several recordings.
