Welcome to the 2012 NJWA Summer Workshop Experience!
Our Philosophy
We are a 5 week workshop that prides itself with diverse offerings in the areas of the fine and performing arts for students in pre-k through grade 9. We offer exciting and challenging classes that are designed to unleash the students’ imaginations. We encourage personal creativity and recognize it as an integral ingredient in the overall artistic process.
Our teaching staff is comprised of dynamic, professional educators who are committed to providing an outstanding creative experience, regardless of a student’s age level or existing ability. Our instructors focus on artistic and personal growth as they encourage and promote independence and personal expression throughout the artistic experience.
Come explore, discover and create with us this summer.
Our diverse offerings open the door to creativity and learning!
The NJWA Summer Workshop program has been re-energized for the 2012 season and offers participants the opportunity to explore many new and unique course selections.
We are expanding our Pre-K (age 4 by October 31, 2012) and Kindergarten program to include yoga, cooking and chick hatching. These additions complement our already dynamic program where areas of exploration include arts & crafts, violin, a foreign language and science. We recognize the importance of free play as well and always allow time for this important aspect of interaction and creativity!
First Graders will thoroughly enjoy participating in our multi-faceted program that includes arts & crafts, science, cooking, violin, musical theater and more. Experiencing these course samplings will be sure to spark an interest and desire to further explore these offerings in greater depth in subsequent years at the Workshop.
Our intermediate students will be divided into the following age groups
(appropriate placement would be the grade they are entering in September, 2012); grade 2, grades 3-4, and grades 5-6. We are offering a variety of exciting, age appropriate courses in which your child will have the opportunity to discover his/her potential and interests. A sampling of our art classes include ceramics, sculpture, bead and jewelry design, painting, mosaics, paper making, comic book design, model building and metal design. We balance our program with such courses as Lego Robotics, chess, cooking, several science classes, yoga, music, drama and more! Our program offers a multiplicity of interests that are sure to engage your child throughout the 5 week workshop.
Our new Fine Arts Program is designed for students entering grades 7-9. We are offering sophisticated workshops in Oil Painting, Fashion Design, Stained Glass and Stone Carving. These are 2 hour courses designed for the serious art student and provide a wonderful in-depth experience in some very exciting areas of the fine arts.
The NJWA Summer Stage Theater is pleased to announce Andrew T. Lyman as the new artistic director. Mr. Lyman will be directing Willy Wonka, the musical, for his inaugural SST production. This delightful show calls for a large cast and provides many performing opportunities for boys and girls alike. Our theater company is for students entering grades 6-9.
We still offer a 7:30 a.m. drop off option and the YMCA Afternoon Adventures program for those in need of full day coverage.
Again, we invite you to an exciting summer of exploration, discovery and creativity!
